Jiu-Jitsu

Our Jiu-Jitsu classes are designed to empower our students with the skills to defend against and defeat opponents much heavier and stronger than themselves. Although many martial arts claim to bestow this ability on their students, Jiu-Jitsu ( particularly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ) has repeatedly , in dramatic fashion, proved it’s promise in public view. So the Jiu-Jitsu practitioner is never left in doubt of their taught abilities out side the school.

In just a short time of attending our classes a student will have a effective advantage over non practicing opponents which will not only elevate the students self confidence in daily life, but will also be a unique source of pride in being a part of those that practice the rigorous discipline of Jiu-Jitsu.

Furthermore, the benefits of attending our classes extend well beyond simple self defense preparation. Practitioners will also be endowed with great benefits to their physical health that can carry on and vastly improve ones quality of life both in their youth as well as latter life.

Students learn not only techniques that disable opponents and aggressor, they also learn and develop the mental states of mind necessary to achieve and prevail in difficult circumstances making the benefits of training extend far beyond the dojo, into all areas of the students life.

What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that uses leverage of body position and angle to submit or incapacitate a opponent. This is accomplished by applying pressure against a joint ( locks ) or neck ( chokes ) that will either cause a opponent to give up or suffer the completed intention of the technique.

Because the techniques often employ multiple body parts against a single point on a opponents body, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an effective art for a smaller practitioner to defeat a stronger heavier opponent.

The techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are most often executed on the ground where technique can be applied with multiple body parts against a single point without the need for upright balance in the process. The ground position is also used against an opponent by evoking gravity as a ally and taking away a opponents ability to strike effectively.

Techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are most commonly applied against the neck, elbow joints, shoulder joints, ankle joints and the knees, but can also be applied to other body joints such as the wrists, fingers and even spine making the severity of the techniques applied by the practitioner discretionary and scale-able; allowing the practitioner control of the damaged suffered by their opponent.

What advantages does Jiu-Jitsu offer over other martial arts?

One of most notable advantages Jiu-Jitsu has to offer over other martial arts is damage control. In other martial arts that rely on strikes as their primary defense tools the practitioner must apply enough blunt force trauma that a opponents physical abilities to continue are too damaged to do so, but in the end this means lasting injury your opponent must suffer. With the Jiu-Jitsu practitioner the opponent can be controlled and dominated with lasting damage imminent enough to be conveyed to the opponent but with enough control of the edge so that the practitioner can threaten but not be required to complete the damaging technique.

Here is an example scenario where this control is very desirable.

You’re at a party, and a friend, associate, or even uncle has had too much to drink and becomes aggressive towards you. The situation escalates and he takes a drunk swing at you. Now you know tomorrow when everyone is solber this will be seen as a unfortunate chain of events that led to this, but in the here and now you must deal with this aggressive situation. Now if your options were only to strike then your friend, associate, or even uncle would have to suffer lasting damage in order for this situation to be neutralized. But with Jiu-Jitsu you can gain absolute control of your aggressor, nullifying his attack and disallowing any further until help arrives or cooler heads prevail. And tomorrow when everyone is solber you can both be glad you chose Jiu-Jitsu over other martial arts that do not offer the same kind of control.

Another notable advantage Jiu-Jitsu has over other martial arts is achievable proficiency made possible by low cost sparring. To become proficient in any sport one must play and practice against a resisting opponent. In other martial arts this practice against a resisting opponent ( if it exists at all at the school ) must be kept to a minimum because the techniques being practiced are impact techniques that damage participants even when only applying a percentage of full force. For this reason these martial arts simply can’t ( or is very rare ) practice often against a live opponent making it hard to become as proficient in their art as a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, simply because the sparing of a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner does not inherit the taxing damage the other martial arts must absorb to get better.

So in conclusion, if you are looking for a martial art that gives you these

  • 100% control over your opponent
  • 100% control over the damage you must inflict to end a confrontation
  • Realistic effective techniques proven to be effective over heavier stronger opponents
  • Ability to become extremely efficient without absorbing impact damage in the process
  • Dramatic lasting improvement in your physical health
  • Positive mental development for overcoming obstacles and achieving goals
  • The pride and comradery of being a part of those that practice the rigorous discipline of jiu jitsu

This is by far the martial art for you
