The Jiu-Jitsu for Breakfast club was at it again this weekend concurring the BJJ mountain to perch upon the Grappling Summit. Led by their fearless and eternally competing coaches these youngsters continue their path to BJJ GLORY! Super congrats to everyone who competed this weekend!

Lane, the lockdown, Warden put in overtime this weekend. Not only did he win a MMA match on Saturday, but then won a wrestling tournament on Sunday. This kids martial arts career is in the FAST LANE!

Leading by example, Captain Kirk and Coach Brammeier just never get tired of standing on a 1. They just don't stop. Big congrats to the coaches for showing everyone that ... no matter how many times you have snatched a gold ... it's always fun to snatch another ... and another ... and another.

The Great Purple Summit! At last Beau's belt turned the same color as his training partners faces. A WELL DESERVED promotion that has now come to fruition. Beau joins the ranks of the very few that make it this far in the grinding sport of BJJ.

After a loooooong drought on the competition scene a rumble was heard in the distance ... Could it be? ... YESSSS the Dakota Storm RETURNS. This time with her posse, sidekick the Cassidy Kid and Wild Justin (NoGo) Novo the three rode down to save the small town of New Breed. Led by their seasoned kemosabe, Kirk ( Mad Dog ) Huff, the gang brought justice back to the Jiu Jitsu world scoring two gold belts and the double gold medals.

Big congrats to all the combatants last week at the St Louis International Open IBJJF 2023. Arnold got a bunch of medals. Stood on some numbers. Was a good time all around. AND it was a IBJJF event so some tough competition came out for sure.

In a effort to allow our team members to build their portfolio we just implemented competition medals on the profile pages. This way you can collect medals and show them all off on your wall. Some of you will have a whole WALL of medals by the time you are done. I've been wanting to do this for a while and finally got around to doing it. Like an old school Ronin, Michelle traveled down to Florida by herself to kick em where the sun don't shine. And although it was in Orlando, this wasn't any Micky Mouse tournament. This was the Pans. A tournament ALL the big players cast themselves into the fire to show what kind of metal they're their made of. And turns out Michelle is cast iron. She won the whole thing. Her incredible transformation and journey can be seen in one of the images below. Super congrats to her for going for her dreams and achieving.

A fine tearful, grateful, goodby to the birthplace and home of Arnold BJJ. This Tuesday is the LAST day we shall assemble to chokeology. This place has been baptized in our sweat, effort ... probably some blood. And we are grateful for all the time we spent here ... shaking our neighbors above ... and poaching their WI FI. ( tears of nostalgia ). BUT ... we can always come visit you ... oh basement of our youth ... because Ed will still be boxing here. So we will come visit when we can.

Its the moment you leave the casual BJJ practitioner and join the elite few who actually make it to PURPLE BELT. Its a TRULY monumental occasion and in true Kirk Huff fashion he snuck up and surprised Gage with the MASSIVE level up. Dakota got her blue checkmark this weekend as the new POPUND 4 POUND purple belt NO GI champ at the Nashville Open. When they asked for proof of verification she just whipped out that chain of gold metals she had just won. Looked like was was holding a stack of giant gold lottery tickets.

Purple belts in the Nashville Open are hoping Captain Kirk ranks her up by next year because this is the 2nd year she completely dominates in the Nashville purple belt division, winning gold after gold. I heard one girld crying, "We like gold too! ... :( ".

Big salute to all the Arnold warriors that traveled all the way to the sunshine state, braved the crocodiles, to engage in grappling combat with some of the toughest competition in both north and south America. Despite the very hard competition they still came away with some metals.

Some didn't do as well as they hoped BUT they put it on the line. And the glory of the warrior IS the fortitude to face possible defeat. WOW ... What a weekend for the Basement Bandits. ... Kids to adults, The Water Tower Tribe, stood on number blocks all weekend long ... Two got well-deserved stripes. One even advancing belts in the process.

The kids were killing it and the adults were right there behind them. Captain Kirk needed to stand on his own #1 block just to look over all his winners. There are so many winners I can't fit them all into the featured image.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ........ YEAHHHHHHHHHAAAAA. The great belt wall has been breached. VICTORY ATTAINED! They say that the BJJ Purple belt is the most difficult belt to attain and of the many who have tried, Andrea Fiorino has made it. SUPER SUPER congrats to her and this monumental achievement. All the hard work and sacrifice paid off in the Royal Color now around her waist.

Congrats to all who competed in the Neon Capitals fierce competitions. We had competitors in all manners of BJJ events struggling and attaining the metals of hard work and honor. Michelle Schramm with the hard-fought and well-deserved bronze. Andrea Fiorino bringing the grit and determination, achieving the Bronze as well. And Dakota Zimmerman pressure testing her skills in a higher weight division STILL achieving the Bronze.

And topping it off, the rising star, Mackenzie Pratt, dominated her division to not only get the Gold but advancing rank in victory from grey belt to Rising Sun Yellow.

SUPER CONGRATS to Dakota and Michelle for competing AND attaining the prestigious ... coveted ... World Metals. Dakota snatching a Silver and Michelle snatching a Bronze. The Worlds tournament is what BJJ practitioners judge champions by and these two are certainly that. Big congrats to you both.

And special congrats to Captain Kirk for winning the Wako Open. He now holds the championship straightjacket, toppling long time title holder and David Koresh student to attain both the title and church membership. Congrats to him.

Congrats to all the competitors braving the Rona to bring glory and honor to the Arnold Gym. Colin fought hard winning two of his first matches before the fickle refs of fate called a 0 - 0 match against him. But still ... great job Colin at the prestigious Pans.

Dakota, continuing her BJJ domination, won 1st AGAIN for the 4th time. Showing her number 1 rank is well deserved. Pretty soon the Pans are just going to send her a metal in the mail to optimize mat time.

Tornado touched down in Kansas City this weekend, picking up enough gold squares to build a yellow brick road back to Arnold Missouri. Congrats to all the competitors who competed with their fearless leader, Captain Kirk, who brought back much plunder from their organized raid. Their fearless heroin ,Dakota Zimmerman, secured the #1 ranked Ibjjf spot in the world purple belt light feather weight division, continuing her climb. What an awesome weekend for the team.

Super congrats to Porter Matechi for his quick sub victory in under two minutes. Watch as Porter lifts his opponent up with ease ... thinks about it for a minute ... and then is like ... "hmmmmmmm .... I want you back over here." .... -> DROP BANG!!!

I won every IBJJF match I had as a white belt since I joined Arnold- with 0 points scored against me.

Won Pan Ams, was the number one ranked Master 2 female white belt. Got my Blue Belt, became Masters 2 Super Heavy World Champ.

I also had my first Super Fight with Fight2Win and won.

Currently, I’m ranked #1 in no gi and #4 in gi nationwide for Fuji tournaments (masters women)
I’m 40 years old, live in South County, and I’m a teacher. Last year I opened my own micro-school during the pandemic so that kids who needed in-person education had options while all of our local districts had decided to only offer virtual learning. We had a successful year and are hoping to continue to meet the needs of kids who don’t fit in the box public schools try to put them in.

I started at Arnold BJJ last summer, my previous gym was in St Louis County and was closed due to Covid regulations. I just needed to get back on the mats; jiujitsu helps me manage my anxiety and depression. Jefferson County had fewer restrictions, so I reached out to see if I could drop in on some classes till my gym opened. I ended up staying at Arnold because one night we were talking about tournaments; I said “I like competing, it’s fun, but I’ll never be a World Champion or anything” - Everyone in the room stopped and looked at me and was like “why not?” Kirk and Dakota both told me I could absolutely do that if it’s what I wanted.

Kirk doesn’t tell you things that aren’t true, but he will completely support you in achieving whatever you want as long as you are willing to put in the work it takes to get there.

I also love the number of women we have training. One night we had 7 women in class! Most gyms are lucky to have 2 or 3.
We have an amazing women’s team full of strong competitors and great role models.

In my opinion, there isn’t a better place to train in the whole world than Arnold BJJ.

While Carona was making most the nation gloomy and blue Dakota took that lemon of a year and squeezed it till it turned purple for her. "How?" ... you might ask. Well ... let's just say Dr Fauci would not be happy with her social distancing practices this year, but in her defense ... she WAS discouraging breathing.

Not only did Dakota NOT take the year off, she springboarded up the Jiu-Jitsu hierarchy to the coveted purple belt level.

Like the corona virus Dakota had people gaging, choking and quitting throughout the American nationals, AND the Pan Ams ( gi and no gi ) till Kirk felt so sorry for her competition that he promoted Dakota to purple to give that division a break.

Gloriously, Kirk awarded Dakota a purple belt right on the podium. Well deserved ... well fought. SUPER CONGRATS to Dakota for her sprint to the top. The completion clapped in relief as well, knowing their blue belts would now make them immune to the Dakota pandemic sweeping the jiu-jitsu competition scene.

Well done.

It's been over a YEAR since this site has updated anything. You might be tempted to think Arnold BJJ took the year off because of the pandemic ... but NOPE ... just their lazy web guy. Arnold BJJ has thrived and continued. The gym has gone through at least 3 design overhauls and still continued to compete and win. Here is looking forward too a far better ... far more digitally updated ... 2021.

It's becoming the Dakota Classic. Dakota wins again this weekend wearing more gold than Mr T.

AT LAST ... After years of dedication. After countless matches. After all the tournaments and MMA fights. After all the blood sweat and tears ... ALL the ups and downs Jiu Jitsu brings every day. Sir Huff climbed to the very summit of the Jiu Jitsu mountain. The height that few who start ever get near. Stripe Rung after Stripe Rung. Belt plateau after Belt plateau. A journey that takes longer than a PHD.

And fitting to the final rung, Sir Huff finished it with a decisive standing choke. Returning from RESPECT with the Shadow Band.

Chi town was nothin but wind beneath Coach Huff's wings this last weekend, landing him on top of number mountain. And THAT is what Amethyst felt this weekend as she strove and fought TRIUMPHANTLY to victory. SUPER congrats Amethyst Depeter for a win well deserved.

Casey couldn't make it to the storm shelter in time as the Dakota Storm blew in with short notice. Although she managed to survive the ordeal she took quite a tumble as that Dakota Storm blew her around for a bit. Big Ups to Dakota for taking this match AND winning on short notice. She couldn't let coach Kirk have all the fun this weekend.

Coach Kirk Huffed and Puffed and ... sunk in a rear naked that made it impossible for Chris to huff and puff. Turns out blood to the brain is important so Chris escaped with the ole double tap technique. BIG UPs to Coach Kirk doin it big on the main stage. I hear he came home with some money for his troubles as well. Can't beat that!

There IIIIIS a House in New Orleans They CALL the International Opon ... And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy when Dakota stand on block 1. House Huff once again holding it down, down in The Big Easy. There's gold in dem dar hills. Congrats to Dakota for a successful trip, panning for gold in Tennessee. One of her matches was a nailbiter. She only won by a single advantage .... and 25 unanswered points ... but who's counting. After getting what she came there for she wondered around a bit looking at the beautiful scenery. Looks like it was a great weekend.

After a brief detour to acquire a blue belt last weekend Dakota returns to collecting her favorite color ... GOLD. She'll take belts, metals, trophies whatever you got ... hand it over. At this point it's like she's taxing the tournament venues. Big congrats to her adding to the collection this weekend.

House Huff of the south with the valiant Lady Zimmerman rode north this weekend to challenge the Chicago freefolk. The two plundered the region taking only gold. Although the stakes were to the death, Champion Zimmerman took 4 boxhills single handedly. And thou they were vastly outnumbered in the fray, our southern nobles captured a third of the land for kingdom Vaghi.

Dakota's cage performance Friday night brought a proud tear to St Louis' eye. Just like the weather in St Louis, the arm of Dakota's opponent was one minute fine a dandy and the next 30 degrees in the wrong direction. One minute your hopping around listening to the announcer and the next, hail the size of fists are coming down on your head. ... turns out she should have stayed in the house ... like the first 2 of Dakota's opponents did. They were like ... nope! ... I can feel a Dakota storm a blowin. ... my toe hurts. BIG CONGRATS to Dakota for her swift and decisive victory Friday night.

Jack was not playing Friday night. He chopped down that Vin Diesel lookin dude with that right leg shin ax till he gave up his pink slip. And he did it like he was in a race. Jack came in looking fantastic ... and MAD. That dude had like 11 pounds on Jack and Jack beat him like he'd been stealing Jacks food. Super inspiring transformation Jack has gone through and crown it with this amazing victory. SUPER SUPER CONGRATS JACK!

Just saying congrats doesn't do justice to receiving a Vaghi/SCMMA Jiu-jitsu blackbelt but ... we're on the internet so ... we can't do alot more. So MEGA MEGA congrats to Alan Smith for reaching a summit few reach. You deserve a room full of spectators, a procession, maybe a staircase with a sword at the top of it, but again we are on the internet so ... how about some fireworks? ... again MEGA SUPER CONGRATS!!!

Roses are Red Dakota Belt is now Blue. Arnold Jiujitsu is glad and the female white belt division is too. Almost forgot to give Dakota a shout out for her win again this weekend. "IBJJF" Blue belt win. IBJJF won't let her play with the others anymore unless she wears it. Which honestly is nice of the IBJJF sparing the other bluebelts in the division of being trounced by a white belt. These wins happen so regularly I'm thinking about writing a congratulations bot and setting it to post every Monday. SUPER CONGRATS DAKOTA!

DEBUT VICTORY! ... How sweet it is. SUPER congrats to Luis Pena for his debut octagon performance. Like a 18th century French aristocrat, Smullen found himself stuck in the business end of a nasty Pena guillotine. After a punch drunk game of footsie Luis sunk in the chopper to take home his first UFC head as a debut souvenir of his hard work and dedication. Shortly after St Louis erupted and broke the internet. Facebook became Pena Book as St Louis celebrated his first official UFC victory... with many more surely to come.

3 out of 4 women in Chicago this weekend reported symptoms of phantom limb brought about by severe Dakota winds that blew into the windy city this weekend from Arnold MO. Experts in the field say this has become a common occurrence in women divisions around the midwest and are encouraging female competitors to avoid Brazilian jujitsu competitions until the phenomenon has blown up a division.

Reports of massive unanswered point loss have also be described by witnesses of up to 42 in total. We'll continue to report occurrences of this phenomenon as they come in.

Mad props to Joe for his fight this weekend. It may not have turned out exactly as we wanted but big ups to Joe for taking an incredibly hard fight for his first MMA match. In his VERY FIRST MMA match he knowingly stepped up against a highly athletic guy with 14 MMA fights under his belt and that right there takes a amazing amount of mental and warrior spirit that Joe certainly has. And he faced this guy with visible poise and resolve that everyone admired, even his opponent, that showed much respect at the end of their match.

So mad props to Joe who will certainly only use this as the opening narrative of his heart as he rises in MMA the same way he did the Muay Thai circuit he dominated.

Big weekend for Pedigo Submission Team at IBJJF Chicago this weekend. In the Adult No Gi blue belt division Alejandro Wajner and Anthony Goetz both had amazing matches. Their first time fighting their way through the open taking Silver and bronze. Anthony being a rooster weight competitor (122lbs) and a master makes me incredibly proud of him being on this podium. Alejandro lost by an advantage in the finals, he did amazing. Andrew Wiltse brought home bronze in the Adult purple open. Amazing matches, amazing competitors. Proud of these 3 and their accomplishments this weekend!
